There is an abundance of information on the internet about all sorts of
medical matters. Unfortunately, not all the information is accurate and
unbiased. We encourage you to do a search on everything you are concerned
about, but we especially recommend that you look at sites that are sponsored by
the government, non-profit foundations, or professional organizations such as
the American Medical Association (AMA) or the American College of Ob/Gyns (ACOG).
Information you find online may help you better understand your medical
condition, a proposed surgery, medication or special treatment. We
encourage you to bring questions to us at your appointment. We may not be
able to respond to emails in a timely fashion. Also, our email response
must necessarily be brief and may not address the complexity of the issue in the
same manner that we could at a face-to-face visit.
Medline Plus is a good place to start,
because it is a very trustworthy information service of the US National Library
of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health.
Here's the Medline Plus
for Women.
Pregnancy Links:
Type "pregnancy" into Google Search and you will get
nearly 80 MILLION hits!
Some worthwhile sites will provide week-by-week changes in
you and your baby. Type in "pregnancy week by week"
There are lots of sites that allow you to participate in discussions; some are
moderated, others aren't.
You can use the ACOG Website for online education.
Watch for our own RMOB Blog link in the future where our
patients can add comments and recommendations about
websites.
